Six fun things to do in the Tampa area

Tampa, Florida most well recognized for being homeward to Busch Gardens, the section of the SeaWorld family of amusement parks, and one of the most visited theme parks in the US. The Florida Aquarium and Lowry Park Zoo are two other famous attractions in the region, popular with both locals and tourists. Additionally, you will discover several beautiful beaches, some of which listed amongst the largest in the country. Visitors and snowbirds often frequent the beaches during the colder winter months. Although summertime is hot and muggy, the beaches are resting and cool during the fall and winter season. Amusements and beaches aside, Tampa has much more to give both locals and visitors. Many parks and preserves provide a quiet escape from the boisterous beach crowds, not to mention a shady flee for summertime strolls and bike rides.

Tampa Theater

The historic Tampa Theater, built in 1926, has been rated as one of the ten most beautiful theaters in the world (BBC). It comes as no surprise as the architecture is just stunning. With an exciting lineup of events throughout the year, including a popular Summer Classic Movies Series and an annual showing of classic holiday films, you have endless opportunities for year-round entertainment in a classy, beautiful setting. Pre-show live music and a starry sky set the mood right for the perfect romantic date night destination.

The Florida Aquarium

Tampa’s Aquarium is a hotspot amongst travelers touring the city, and thus, is nearly always crowded (weekends often pressed to the point where you can’t easily walk around, so travel on weekdays for a more friendly experience). With a fabulous place on downtown’s new Riverwalk, a visit to the Aquarium is now an even more delightful experience. The feature here is a 500,000 gallon Coral Reef tank, which is the place to Sand Tiger Sharks, giant turtles, and dozens of more varieties (several of which are local to Florida). An impressive Wetlands Trail, complete with free-flying birds, daily animal encounter exhibits, alligators, and a scene of Florida cypress swamps is another must-see on your holiday. The Florida Aquarium is a fabulous place to escape the summer heat: an informative and exciting alternative to the beach.

The Tampa Riverwalk

Downtown Tampa’s newly completed Riverwalk is the ideal place for a chilly early morning stroll. Only a little over 2 miles, it is the excellent distance for resting walks. Here you will not only be treated to beautiful views of the skyline, but you will also enjoy comfortable access to top attractions such as the Tampa Museum of Art, The Florida Aquarium, and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. It’s also conveniently lit up at night, producing the excellent setting for romantic date night strolls.

Six fun things to do in the Tampa area

Lettuce Lake Park

Lettuce Lake Park is one of Tampa’s most tranquil parks. Although small in size, it packs in plenty of beauty in its’ 240 acres. As you stroll across the wooden boardwalks, you will reach across an observation deck facing the lovely Hillsborough River. A park is also an excellent area for wildlife sightings, particularly alligators during the colder months. Wet views with the trail make you feel as if you have taken a step back in time. Other activities at the park include a bike loop with fitness stations, kayaking, a short hiking trail, and picnicking.

Lowry Park Zoo

Tampa’s little zoo crowds in a surprising number of exciting exhibits and yearly events, including Zoo Boo (an annual Halloween magnificent), Zoo Lights (a holiday light dramatic), and Zoo Run Run (an interesting 5k course that winds through the zoo and with the river). Safari Africa gives an up-close glimpse of giraffes, elephants, and zebras in a setting that mimics their natural habitat. This walkable zoo is clean, well-organized, and less packed than several other attractions in town.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

 Tampa’s casino is now the 6th biggest in the world. Ten famous restaurants, including Tampa’s only Hard Rock Cafe and an outstanding buffet called Fresh Harvest, are amongst the options available. A big poker room, over 5000 slots, and over hundred table games locate the Hard Rock on the list of top ten largest US casinos (it comes in at number four!). The contemporary hotel highlights lots of Rock N’ Roll memorabilia, a pool with an underwater stereo system, and a program that provides guests to check out guitars. An entertaining place to visit for both visitor and locals and an easy road tour from several other areas in Florida make Tampa’s Hard Rock Hotel the best choice for a quick weekend destination. The proximity to several other great local attractions (the hotel is only 4 miles from Busch Gardens and five from the historic Y-bor city) make it a popular vacation destination for visitors).
